Developing Active Listening Skills

Our 'Developing Active Listening Skills' training course, can be delivered in a classroom setting or via webinar. It is possible for webinar recordings to be uploaded to an eLearning platform, along with supplementary resources, quizzes and case studies for future access.

Aims of the course

In this course, participants will learn a wide range of techniques to improve their active listening skills. As well as acquiring valuable new techniques, participants will also become aware of their current ability to listen, personal shortfalls and strategies to confront and overcome these.

Who will benefit from attending?

Anyone with an interest in the benefits of active listening, especially HR staff, those with reception and secretarial/administrative tasks, those taking minutes, sales staff and educators.

Participants will learn to:

  • Determine their own communication behaviours and styles
  • Understand the way in which emotions might impact their ability to listen effectively
  • Analyse and put in practice different techniques for active listening
  • Learn a wide range of effective listening skills such as: restarting, summarising, emotion labelling, probing, validation, effective pause and silence
  • Develop better rapport, understanding and trust of others

Key topics covered:

  • Defining active listening
  • Self- awareness: communication and listening style
  • Questioning skills (e.g. open questions, TED questions etc…)
  • Passive listening- acknowledgement through body language
  • Listening with empathy
  • Practical application at work

The majority of our courses are customised and delivered in-house.

Our standard fee for customised course delivery over the duration of a day is £1,400 excluding VAT. This fee includes:
